The Veteran's Memorial

The Veterans Memorial was created to honor the men and women who have served and who have fought to keep our country free! American Legion Post 15 initiated the project and the City Council approved the memorial in the Spring of 2013. It is our privilege to recognize their sacrifice and dedication with the memorial placed near Blackberry Square downtown Lindale.

American Legion Post 15 indicated the idea to have a memorial dedicated to all who have served in each branch of the U.S. Armed Forces was discussed among members of the local Legion Post a few years ago. “The idea came out of some of us that had talked about it and went forward with it.” The City of Lindale provided the land for the memorial, as well as, the water and electricity. The fundraising effort was centered on the sale of memorial bricks, sponsorships of flag poles, benches and in-kind contributions which honored friends and family members for their military services. The memorial’s price tag was approximately $30,000. Ground breaking took place in April 2014 and the official dedication ceremony was held on September 9, 2014.

The ongoing maintenance, upkeep and capital improvements of the Memorial are controlled by an Advisory board consisting of 9 members and an ex-officio member from the City Council.

This memorial will honor the men and women, past and present, who have served this great nation in the armed and maritime services. These brave sons and daughters answered the call to serve and made the sacrifices necessary so that we may enjoy our freedom.
